This past Monday, February 23rd, I went as a part of the American Heart Association team to give my testimony to the Public Health Committee at the Connective State Legislative office in Hartford in support of Senate Bill 684, concerning increased training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and for it to specifically include CPR and AED training in schools. Besides myself, there were 8 other people testifying in support of the bill. Each one of us had a unique perspective on why the bill is so important to us and the impact it would have on the community if passed.
Instead of reading out my
testimony for the public health committee, which I had electronically submitted
the day before, after a brief introduction and with permission from the
committee I presented a short demonstration of "Hands Only
CPR". You can read it here:
I was able to show them just how easily the
skill can be taught in just 1 minutes 9 seconds. It takes under 30 minutes to
teach a Hands only CPR class which includes the use of an AED
as well as teaches how to relieve an obstructed airway.
Here is the full video of the hearing from that
day.
My testimony begins at 1:28:00 and goes till
1:34:00.
I highly encourage everybody to voice
their support for Senate bill 684 by writing to their state representative and
senators. You can also mention you became aware of the legislation from
hearing about our visit to the State Capitol.
